Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ("Manager's Syndrome"): When Rest No Longer Helps

Myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a severe biological, not psychological, disease affecting the immune, nervous, hormonal and cardiovascular systems. Its hallmark is fatigue that does not resolve even after a full night's sleep.

How to recognize ME/CFS

What happens in the body

Patients with ME/CFS have documented impairment of natural killer and T-cell function, chronically elevated inflammatory cytokines, disturbances in cellular energy production (the ability to generate energy from oxygen, glucose and fatty acids), dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and disturbed blood pressure and heart rate regulation (neurally mediated hypotension, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). These are documented pathophysiological changes — which is why "just get some rest" does not work.

Our approach and expected result

Conventional methods, according to the literature, achieve full recovery in only 5–10% of cases. We apply a comprehensive effect on the "golden triangle" of homeostasis — the immune-neuro-endocrine system — using biological medicine methods. Based on the clinic's experience, this approach achieves success in 60–70% of cases. The program is designed after an in-depth work-up that can be completed where the patient lives.

Questions & Answers

How is CFS different from ordinary tiredness?
Ordinary tiredness resolves with rest and a vacation. In ME/CFS, fatigue persists for months, is not relieved by sleep, and worsens after exertion — physical or mental. This is a key diagnostic feature.
Isn't this just depression?
ME/CFS is a biological disease with documented immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine disturbances. Depression may accompany it but is not its cause. Differential diagnosis is part of our work-up.
What tests will I need?
The doctor draws up an individual list: immunological and hormonal markers, inflammation markers, and, if needed, assessment of orthostatic responses. Most tests can be done where you live.
How long does the treatment program take?
Patients usually notice initial changes within the first few weeks; the full program spans several months with ongoing physician support. Timing is individual and depends on severity.
