Who an IUD suits

This method is ideal for women who want long-term, reversible contraception without daily pills: modern systems are over 99% effective. Hormonal IUDs also reduce menstrual bleeding; copper IUDs suit those who prefer to avoid a hormonal component. Your doctor will discuss the choice of system with you individually.

How insertion works

Insertion is preceded by an exam and a baseline work-up to rule out contraindications (inflammation, pregnancy, etc.). The procedure itself takes a few minutes within a 45-minute visit and is usually done in the first days of the cycle. A follow-up visit is scheduled after insertion.

IUD removal is a short outpatient procedure; a new device can be inserted during the same visit if desired. Fertility returns quickly after removal.
